Satin Finished Walnut Kitchen (Posted 17/04/2025)

We do love when we come across a kitchen, especially when its walnut! Walnut just has that rich elegance feel to it, the warm tones add a nice coziness, making the kitchen simultaneously feel inviting and elegant.

When we first viewed the kitchen, although sound, it was looking a little dull as you can see from the picture.  The kitchen was missing that clean, smooth, texturized finish.  Also there were parts that the sun had completely bleached.

The Kitchen on is now beautiful.

Required works as follows:

  • Clean and degrease. One cannot apply French Polishing products over a surface that is not perfectly clean as contamination can cause reactions.

  • Holes and dents filled. This involves filling cracks, scratches, scuffs and dents.

  • Discoloration.Due to bleaching by the Sun, and other factors the colour of the kitchen in area had gone from a red walnut colour to a yellow walnut colour. We restored the redness back to the parts that had turned yellow.

  • Lacquering and pulling off. After applying layers of lacquer with a cellulose-based product, we rub down, clean up and pull off using a French Polishers rubber infuse with lacquer and a pulling agent which moves the dried lacquer surface ever so slightly. This difficult technique leaves a smooth textures look and feel.

How do we accomplish this?

Well first a cleaning service is required; cleaning and prepping is key for a good finish. we will go over the holes and scratches, and fill and repair them. Lacquering is then carful carried out making sure we don’t leave any marks or tares. Finally finishing it of with a nice smooth pull off, giving it that nice rich soft look.

What did all this hard work achieve? Well as we can see the smoothness of the cabinet doors, the rich colours, that nice gentle shine and a truly lovely kitchen.

Completion

Below is a video of the whole kitchen refinished.  Upon viewing, please take note of the richness of the finish.  As mentioned before this kitchen was oiled.  The problem with oiling a kitchen with walnut oil is that it takes an age to apply and build up a depth.  It also takes ages to dry.  With colouring, by our colour matching techniques, there is not need to strip the kitchen.  We can colour over the top, then lock in the colour with lacquer which dries exceedingly fast.  Therefore there is no waiting for days for clients to use the kitchen.
